MERCADO DE SANTO TOMÁS

• Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art: In the cloister of the museum you can visit the exhibition "Nativity of the World". Christmas Eve, Xmas and New Year closed date: until January 6th. Timetable: 10:30-13:30 H and 16 00-19:00.
• Museum of Steps: Exhibition of large-format nativity scenes. 10 spectacular facilities of 3 x 2.5 meters set in Naples, Santurce or Africa. This last Bethlehem has all its animals in motion.  ✭ until the 9th of April the Museum of Fine Arts of Bilbao presents the exhibition of Eduardo Arroyo (Madrid, 1937) "Le retour des Croisades", an exhibition that brings together a total of 43 works of the artist. It is one of the principal representatives of the European painting of the mid 60 called figuration Narrayiva. His work is full of literary and autobiographical references where humour or political and social criticism is detected. He is a painter, sculptor and graphic designer, illustrator, engraver and poster artist. What an artist says for the "four sides".

 ✭✭✭ until March 11, 2018, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao presents for the first time in Europe the work of Amie Siegel "Winter" (Winter, 2013). This work, belonging to the collection of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, closes the 2017 programming of the Film & Video Room, an initiative of the museum to house key works of video art, Videoinstallation and the moving image as an artistic medium.

The OLENTZERO

✭✭✭ the 23rd of December. Olentzero arrives in Bilbao. The Olentzero, the magical character that brings the gifts to the Basque homes, arrives in the capital of Bizkaia mounted on a giant Pottoka (horse breed of the Basque Country). It is accompanied by his entourage: his companion Mari Domingi and Basajaun (Cyclops), mounted on a large goose and a huge tricycle, and Lamia (Basque mythological character) and the Galtzagorris (elves with red pants).

Travel:

Gran Vía at 19:00 and parade to the Teatro Arriaga where you will spend the night. December 24th. Reception of the Olentzero to the girls and the children in the Teatro Arriaga, from 11:00 to 14:00. After resting and regaining strength, Olentzero and Mari Domingi will receive in the morning all the wishes and requests of the girls and boys who come to the Teatro Arriaga. Then, in the afternoon, he will depart for the neighborhoods of Bilbao to spread illusion.

The Magi

Christmas Playground

   ✭✭✭ from 21 December to 5 January. The pavilions of Bilbao Exhibition Centre have fun holidays in the classic Christmas playground, where a complete program of leisure and entertainment activities will be presented. This new edition will feature an exceptional range of games, sporting activities, workshops and traditional barracks.

Ice Rink

✭✭✭ from 5 December to 13 January the pavilion of the Square has become an ice palace to enjoy skating.

✭✭✭ until February 25, 2018 exhibition of the portraitist David Hockney after his monumental exhibition of landscapes in 2012, the artist returns to the Guggenheim museum Bilbao with an intense and enveloping installation around portraiture. All the works are the same size, they were painted in a time frame of three days and show the model seated in the same chair, illuminated by the bright light of southern California and with the same background of an intense blue. Thanks to the virtuoso treatment of the artist, the uniformity of the elements of each painting accentuates the differences between the different models, allowing their personalities to emerge from the canvas with a warm immediacy.

   ✭✭✭ Diputación Foral de Bizkaia organises a new edition of the European Heritage Conference, an ambitious Cultural Heritage awareness programme, promoted by the Council of Europe in collaboration with the European Union. The initiative, with a long trajectory at European level, has reached an unprecedented success, since 50 countries are currently participating in it. It is a conference of open doors in which, in an exceptional way and only during certain days, the public has the opportunity to access and to know a great number of resources related to its patrimony and history.    ✭✭✭ until the 7th of January of 2018 enjoys in Euskal Museoa (c/Miguel de Unamuno 4) of Tatting, a collection of 18th century clothing from the San Telmo Museum in San Sebastián that we can visit in Bilbao. Most of the pieces belong to the high society and some stand out for the excellent quality of their fabrics and embroidery. Timetables: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10.00 to 19.00, Saturday from 10.00 to 13.30 and 16.00 to 19.00 and Sunday from 10.00 to 14.00 hours. Closed Tuesday.
